俗语说，千种玛瑙万种玉。色彩变幻、天生丽质的玛瑙，千百年来对人类一直保持着神秘的吸引力。

从玛瑙石切开的剖面可以看到由灰、白、红、绿、淡褐、淡蓝等多种不同颜色组成的同心圆状、波纹状、层状或平行条带状。宝石界将这些隐晶质块体石英称作玛瑙。严格地说，没有纹带特征，不能称玛瑙，只能称玉髓。按照纹带的粗细和形态、颜色，玛瑙分为许多品种：红缟玛瑙
